Tips for Incredible Headshots | Oregon Branding Photographer
I firmly believe that headshots should be versatile and classic, but that never has to mean boring! My clients come from a variety of backgrounds and jobs, so my photo sessions are never the same. Each client has different needs, however there are a few concepts that are helpful for every headshot session.
Should you sit or stand for headshots?
You are generally at your most relaxed for photos when you are sitting!
This makes your headshot feel a little more approachable, which can be really helpful if you are in a service industry. I like to shoot a variety of both for headshot sessions, based on what your specific needs are!
Embrace the outdoors for eye-catching headshots!
As clean as a simple backdrop can look, an outdoor portrait is gorgeous and eye-catching. Outdoor headshot sessions are perfect for websites and social media posts, because they will visually attract your ideal clients!
Headshots taken in your work environment are a powerful way to connect with your client!
Don't underestimate your place of work. Whether you work in a shop, an office, a garage, or at home, a headshot in your natural work environment will help your clients know a little more of what to expect when they hire or book, and it alleviates some of the fear of the unknown that prevents some clients from booking!
Relax and enjoy the shoot!
Headshots absolutely should portray some sort of professional message, but they should never lack personality!
Your personality is what sells you and your services or products to your clients. If you present yourself with a bland, or impersonal photo, it will be hard for clients to connect with you!
Want to know my biggest secret for headshots?
Use interesting walls as a backdrop!
Almost all of the fantastic backgrounds that I use are walls that you might have seen before!
I love a good backdrop, but you don't need expensive backdrops or lighting equipment to take a great headshot. If you need something for your website or LinkedIn, all we need is a wall to capture an amazing image that will grab your audience's attention! This wall is a street facing wall in downtown, Albany, Oregon.
So... take a deep breath! You can ROCK a headshot session. Just be yourself, that's all your audience wants.
It's time for updated headshots that reflect you and your business well!
